How to change Service Domain with hsphere reseller account
Changing the Primary Service Domain:
The primary service domain for a reseller customer in hsphere is tied into a lot of things, including all of the server aliases, nameservers, etc.
The way to accomplish changing the reseller service domain is not recommended - but, it can be accomplished as follows
- create and setup a new reseller account with the new service domain.
- we will then have to administratively move each account from the old reseller account to the new reseller account, which is done by our L3 HSphere admins.
This is on the backend (database) and is not moving any data or services, but due to the amount of work that it involves, we charge a fee for this: typically $10/account.
- for every domain in the end user accounts that is pointing to the old service domain based nameservers, they must be changed so that they point to
the new service domain based nameservers. Everything should continue to resolve, but domains that continue to point to the old nameserver names may
show DNS errors in any DNS lookups, as the old nameserver names don't match the new nameserver (ns) records.
- Finally, remove the old reseller account. This cannot be done until after step 3 is fully completed, otherwise any domains with records pointing to the old
nameserver names will fail lookups and not be able to resolve ( they will be down).
